Frequently Asked Questions
What ages do you teach?
I teach Grades 6 to 12, which usually tends to be ages 12 to 18.
Do you do Chemistry or Biology for Grades 11 and 12?
Actually no, but I will be happy to provide references of experienced colleagues should you need so.
What languages can you teach in?
I can teach in English, French or Spanish.
How are the sessions conducted?
Video sessions are conducted via Google Meet. The student shares a whiteboard with the tutor that can be edited by both parties in real time. After each session, the class can be saved and stored for future study.
Are there any special technical requirements?
The student needs to have an email account and an electronic pen or equivalent to be able to edit and write in the shared white board.
When do classes take place?
Within my time zone in Barcelona (GMT+2), my working hours are from 9am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 2pm on Saturdays, all year round.
What is the frequency of the classes?
It depends on the situation. Most students book one weekly slot per subject, which I'm happy to allocate on a first come first served basis. Intensive programs (e.g. in preparation of an exam) or a set number of specific sessions can also be scheduled. However students with a weekly periodicity have priority in time allocation.
Is there any homework?
While some families explicitly request a minimum of extra assignments in between classes (e.g. in case of a preparation to an exam or during an intensive course through the holidays), in some other cases the school's homework may be sufficient to practice the contents. It all depends on the needs and situation but in any case it is important to get the students on board by securing their committment so they understand the need for that extra homework.
Do you have experience with students with learning difficulties or other diagnosed conditions?
Yes indeed, some of my students have been diagnosed of dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia or ADHD. I believe the specific training received by the Learning Support specialists at the different Secondary Schools I have worked at, as well as my own professional practice over 16 years enables me to handle a variety of difficulties in the individual learning process of my students.
What is the tuition fee?
The fee is charged per hour of class and depends on the subject and year grade. Please reach out via phone, text message or email for any details.
How are the payments made?
Bank transfers or other electronic payments by smart phone (such as Bizum in Spain) are accepted. Payments are made before the end of each month, based on the number of classes held previously.
What is the change/cancellation policy?
Please let me know of any change of schedule as soon as you can so we can try to reschedule the class. Any communication with less than 24h prenotice will imply the charge of the missed class, except in case of emergency (o illness on the same day), in which case the adult in charge needs to inform me personally. In order to honour each student's allocated slot I ask families on the whole not to change schedules. Unpaid cancellations are accepted up to a limit of one class per month (excluding bank holidays).
What are the first steps if I want to give it a try?
You can reach out by email or text message. If possible, at the beginning, I usually have a video or phone conversation with one parent or guardian to get an idea of the specific tutoring needs and discuss practicalities such as schedules, etc. After that we can arrange a 5-10 min videochat with the student to make sure the logistics work and agree on the content for the first session. Usually I keep regular contact (especially at the beginning) with parents or guardians, updating them about the progress or any other matter. I also often keep in touch with the student's math or science teacher whenever the family wants.
